Group Consciousness

Group Consciousness

by Anton Grosz

There is certainly no question that Swine Flu, Mexico’s latest and most virulent export, has brought the world together, if only in making certain that we all stay separated. While reactions around the globe have varied… cruise lines have changed ports of call, schools have closed, flights have canceled, Israel wants to change the name to Mexican Flu for obvious kosher reasons, and Egypt has slaughtered all the pigs in the country even though all the experts keep saying you can’t get it from pigs… everyone wearing a face mask would certainly agree that they are scared, or if not scared, at least concerned. So in one sense at least, Swine Flu has done something good, it has fostered group coherence.

Is there any way this coherence can be measured? I mean if there were some probe you could stick into Earth’s aura, would it read higher on the ‘Fear Scale’ today than it did a week ago? Well, actually it would and believe it or not there is! Go to noosphere.princeton.edu and you will find the Global Consciousness Project, also called the EGG Project, an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists, engineers, artists and others that collects data continuously from a global network of physical random number generators located in 65 host sites around the world. The archive contains more than 10 years of random data in parallel sequences of synchronized 200-bit trials every second.

Their purpose (according to their own site from which this info about them was extracted) “is to examine subtle correlations that may reflect the presence and activity of consciousness in the world, predicting structure in what should be random data associated with major global events. And indeed, when millions of us share intentions and emotions, the GCP/EGG network has shown small but meaningful differences from expectation.”

Their data has shown correlation with major global events including the destruction of 9/11 (negative) and the election of Barack Obama (positive). To use their words, “This suggests that large scale group consciousness has effects in the physical world. We need to know about this, and learn to use our full capacities for creative movement toward a conscious future.”

Well, yeah!!! That’s what group consciousness is, and the intuitive, non-scientific types have known about it for a long long time. There are prayer groups around the world that stop at certain times of the day to align consciousness towards higher global goals such as world peace or the ending of hunger. Do they do any good? It’s hard to measure. They believe so and that’s what the Princeton group is trying to ascertain. It is good to see the scientists catching up to the psychics.
